atha khalu mahāmatir bodhisattvo mahāsattvo bhagavantaṃ gāthābhiḥ paripṛcchya punar apy adhyeṣate sma | deśayatu me bhagavāṃs tathāgato ’rhan samyaksaṃbuddho māṃsabhakṣaṇe guṇadoṣaṃ yena ahaṃ cānye ca bodhisattvā mahāsattvā anāgatapratyutpannakāle sattvānāṃ kravyādasattvagativāsanāvāsitānāṃ māṃsabhojagṛddhāṇāṃ rasatṛṣṇāprahāṇāya dharmaṃ deśayāma | yathā ca te kravyādabhojinaḥ sattvā virāgya rasatṛṣṇāṃ dharmarasāhārakāṅkṣayā sarvasattvaikaputrakapremānugatāḥ parasparaṃ mahāmaitrīṃ pratilabheran | pratilabhya sarvabodhisattvabhūmiṣu kṛtayogyāḥ kṣipram anuttarāṃ samyaksaṃbodhim abhisaṃbudhyeran | śrāvakapratyekabuddhabhūmyā vā viśramyānuttarāṃ tāthāgatīṃ bhūmim upasarpayeyuḥ | durākhyātadharmair api tāvad bhagavann anyatīrthikair lokāyatadṛṣṭyabhiniviṣṭaiḥ sadasatpakṣocchedaśāśvatavādibhir māsaṃ nivāryate bhakṣyamāṇam svayaṃ ca na bhakṣyate | prāg eva kṛpaikarase samyaksaṃbuddhe praṇīte lokanāthe tava śāsane māṃsaṃ svayaṃ ca bhakṣyate bhakṣyamāṇaṃ ca na nivāryate | tat sādhu bhagavān sarvalokānukampakaḥ sarvasattvaikaputrakasamadarśī mahākāruṇiko ’nukampām upādāya māṃsabhakṣaṇe guṇadoṣān deśayatu me yathā ahaṃ cānye ca bodhisattvās tathatvāya sattvebhyo dharmaṃ deśayema | bhagavān āha | tena hi mahāmate śṛṇu sādhu ca suṣṭhu ca manasikuru | bhāṣiṣye ’haṃ te | sādhu bhagavann iti mahāmatir bodhisattvo mahāsattvo bhagavataḥ pratyaśrauṣīt ||


【求譯】爾時大慧菩薩以偈問言:

    彼諸菩薩等,志求佛道者,

    酒肉及與葱,飲食爲云何?

    惟願無上尊,哀愍爲演說。

    愚夫所貪著,臭穢無名稱,

    虎狼所甘嗜,云何而可食?

    食者生諸過,不食爲福善,

    惟願爲我說,食不食罪福。

大慧菩薩說偈問已,復白佛言:“惟願世尊爲我等說食不食肉功德過惡。我及諸菩薩於現在、未來,當爲種種悕望食肉衆生分別說法,令彼衆生慈心相向。得慈心已,各於住地淸淨明了,疾得究竟無上菩提。聲聞、緣覺自地止息已,亦復逮成無上菩提。惡邪論法諸外道輩邪見斷常,顚倒計著,尚有遮法不聽食肉,況復如來世間救護正法成就而食肉耶?”佛告大慧:“善哉善哉!諦聽諦聽!善思念之,當爲汝說。”大慧白佛:“唯然受敎。”

【菩譯】爾時聖者大慧菩薩摩訶薩白佛言:“世尊!我觀世間生死流轉怨結相連墮諸惡道,皆由食肉更相殺害,增長貪瞋不得出離甚爲大苦。世尊!食肉之人斷大慈種,修聖道者不應得食。世尊!諸外道等說邪見法盧迦耶陀墮俗之論,墮於斷常有無見中皆遮食肉,自己不食不聽他食,云何如來淸淨法中修梵行者,自食他食一切不制?如來世尊於諸衆生慈悲一等,云何而聽以肉爲食?善哉世尊!哀愍世間願爲我說食肉之過不食功德,我及一切諸菩薩等聞已,得依如實修行廣宣流布,令諸現在未來衆生一切識知。”佛告聖者大慧菩薩言:“善哉!善哉!善哉大慧!汝大慈悲愍衆生故能問此義,汝今諦聽當爲汝說。”大慧菩薩白佛言:“善哉世尊!唯然受敎。”

【實譯】爾時大慧菩薩摩訶薩復白佛言:“世尊,願爲我說食不食肉功德過失。我及諸菩薩摩訶薩知其義已,爲未來、現在報習所熏食肉衆生而演說之,令捨肉味,求於法味,於一切衆生起大慈心,更相親愛,如一子想,住菩薩地,得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。或二乘地暫時止息,究竟當成無上正覺。世尊,路迦耶等諸外道輩起有無見,執著斷常,尚有遮禁,不聽食肉,何況如來、應、正等覺大悲含育,世所依怙,而許自他俱食肉耶?善哉世尊,具大慈悲,哀愍世間,等觀衆生猶如一子,願爲解說食肉過惡,不食功德,令我及與諸菩薩等聞已奉行,廣爲他說。”爾時大慧菩薩重說頌言:

    菩薩摩訶薩,志求無上覺,

    酒肉及與葱,爲食爲不食?

    愚夫貪嗜肉,臭穢無名稱,

    與彼惡獸同,云何而可食?

    食者有何過,不食有何德?

    惟願最勝尊,爲我具開演。

  爾時佛告大慧菩薩摩訶薩言:“大慧!諦聽諦聽!善思念之,吾當爲汝分別解說。


bhagavāṃs tasyaitad avocat | aparimitair mahāmate kāraṇair māṃsaṃ sarvam abhakṣyaṃ kṛpātmano bodhisattvasya tebhyas tūpadeśamātraṃ vakṣyāmi | iha mahāmate anena dīrgheṇādhvanā saṃsaratāṃ prāṇināṃ nāsty asau kaścit sattvaḥ sulabharūpo yo na mātābhūt pitā vā bhrātā vā bhaginī vā putro vā duhitā vā anyatarānyataro vā svajanabandhubandhūbhūto vā tasyānyajanmaparivṛttāśrayasya mṛgapaśupakṣiyonyantarbhūtasya bandhor bandhubhūtasya vā sarvabhūtāt mabhūtānupāgantukāmena[1] sarvajantuprāṇibhūtasaṃbhūtaṃ māṃsaṃ katham iva bhakṣyaṃ syād buddhadharmakāmena bodhisattvena mahāsattvena | rākṣasasyāpi mahāmate tathāgatānām imāṃ dharmasudharmatām upaśrutyopagatarakṣabhāvāḥ kṛpālavā bhavanti māṃsabhakṣaṇavinivṛttāḥ, kim uta dharmakāmā janāḥ | evaṃ tāvan mahāmate teṣu teṣu jātiparivarteṣu sarvasattvāḥ svajanabandhubhāvasaṃjñāḥ sarvasattvaikaputrakasaṃjñābhāvanārthaṃ māṃsaṃ sarvam abhakṣyam | kṛpātmano bodhisattvasyābhakṣyaṃ māṃsam | vyabhicārād api mahāmate māṃsaṃ sarvam abhakṣyaṃ cāritravato bodhisattvasya | śvakharoṣṭrāśvabalīvardamānuṣamāṃsādīni hi mahāmate lokasyābhakṣyāṇi māṃsāni | tāni ca mahāmate vīthyantareṣv aurabhrikā bhakṣyāṇīti kṛtvā mūlyahetor vikrīyante yatas tato ’pi mahāmate māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya ||


【求譯】佛告大慧:“有無量因緣不應食肉,然我今當爲汝略說。謂一切衆生從本已來,展轉因緣,常爲六親。以親想故,不應食肉。驢、騾、駱駝、狐、狗、牛、馬、人、獸等肉,屠者雜賣故,不應食肉。

【菩譯】佛告大慧:“夫食肉者有無量過,諸菩薩摩訶薩修大慈悲不得食肉,食與不食功德罪過我說少分,汝今諦聽。大慧!我觀衆生從無始來食肉習故,貪著肉味更相殺害,遠離賢聖受生死苦;捨肉味者聞正法味,於菩薩地如實修行速得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,復令衆生入於聲聞辟支佛地止息之處,息已令入如來之地。大慧!如是等利慈心爲本,食肉之人斷大慈種,云何當得如是大利?是故,大慧!我觀衆生輪迴六道,同在生死共相生育,迭爲父母兄弟姊妹,若男若女中表內外六親眷屬,或生餘道善道惡道常爲眷屬,以是因緣我觀衆生更相噉肉無非親者,由貪肉味迭互相噉,常生害心增長苦業流轉生死不得出離。”佛說是時,諸惡羅刹聞佛所說,悉捨惡心止不食肉,迭相勸發慈悲之心,護衆生命過自護身,捨離一切諸肉不食,悲泣流淚而白佛言:“世尊!我聞佛說諦觀六道,我所噉肉皆是我親,乃知食肉衆生大怨斷大慈種,長不善業是大苦本。世尊!我從今日斷不食肉,及我眷屬亦不聽食;如來弟子有不食者,我當晝夜親近擁護,若食肉者,我當與作大不饒益。”佛言:“大慧!羅刹惡鬼常食肉者,聞我所說尚發慈心捨肉不食,況我弟子行善法者當聽食肉,若食肉者,當知卽是衆生大怨斷我聖種。大慧!若我弟子聞我所說,不諦觀察而食肉者,當知卽是旃陀羅種,非我弟子我非其師。是故,大慧!若欲與我作眷屬者,一切諸肉悉不應食。

【實譯】“大慧!一切諸肉有無量緣,菩薩於中當生悲愍,不應噉食,我今爲汝說其少分。大慧!一切衆生從無始來,在生死中輪迴不息,靡不曾作父母、兄弟、男女眷屬,乃至朋友、親愛、侍使,易生而受鳥獸等身,云何於中取之而食?大慧!菩薩摩訶薩觀諸衆生同於己身,念肉皆從有命中來,云何而食?大慧!諸羅刹等聞我此說尚應斷肉,況樂法人?大慧!菩薩摩訶薩在在生處,觀諸衆生皆是親屬,乃至慈念如一子想。是故,不應食一切肉。大慧!衢路市肆諸賣肉人或將犬、馬、人、牛等肉,爲求利故而販鬻之,如是雜穢,云何可食?


śukraśoṇitasaṃbhavād api mahāmate śucikāmatām upādāya bodhisattvasya māṃsam abhakṣyam | udvejanakaratvād api mahāmate bhūtānāṃ maitrīm icchato yogino māṃsaṃ sarvam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya[2] | tadyathāpi mahāmate ḍombacāṇḍālakaivartādīn piśitāśinaḥ sattvān dūrata eva dṛṣṭvā śvānaḥ prabhayanti bhayena maraṇaprāptāś caike bhavanty asmān api mārayiṣyantīti evam eva mahāmate anye ’pi khabhūjalasaṃniśritān sūkṣmajantavo ye māṃsāśino darśanād dūrād eva paṭunā ghrāṇenāghrāya gandhaṃ rākṣasasyeva mānuṣā drutam apasarpanti maraṇasaṃdehāś caike bhavanti | tasmād api ca mahāmate udvejanakaratvān mahāmaitrīvihāriṇo yogino māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya | anāryajanajuṣṭaṃ durgandham akīrtikaratvād api mahāmate āryajanavivarjitatvāc ca māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya | ṛṣibhojanāhāro hi mahāmate āryajano na māṃsarudhirāhāra ity ato ’pi bodhisattvasya māṃsam abhakṣyam ||


【求譯】“不淨氣分所生長故,不應食肉。衆生聞氣悉生恐怖,如旃陀羅及譚婆等,狗見憎惡,驚怖群吠故,不應食肉。又令修行者慈心不生故,不應食肉。凡愚所嗜臭穢不淨,無善名稱故,不應食肉。

【菩譯】“復次,大慧!菩薩應觀一切是肉,皆依父母膿血不淨赤白和合生不淨身,是故菩薩觀肉不淨不應食肉。復次,大慧!食肉之人,衆生聞氣悉皆驚怖逃走遠離,是故菩薩修如實行,爲化衆生不應食肉。大慧!譬如旃陀羅獵師屠兒捕魚鳥人一切行處,衆生遙見作如是念:‘我今定死,而此來者是大惡人,不識罪福斷衆生命,求現前利今來至此爲覓我等,今我等身悉皆有肉,是故今來我等定死。’大慧!由人食肉能令衆生見者皆生如是驚怖。大慧!一切虛空地中衆生,見食肉者皆生驚怖,而起疑念:‘我於今者爲死爲活?如是惡人不修慈心,亦如豺狼遊行世間常覓肉食,如牛噉草蜣蜋逐糞不知飽足,我身是肉正是其食不應逢見。’卽捨逃走離之遠去,如人畏懼羅刹無異。大慧!食肉之人,能令衆生見者皆生如是驚怖,當知食肉衆生大怨,是故菩薩修行慈悲,爲攝衆生不應食彼,非聖慧人所食之味,惡名流布聖人呵嘖。是故,大慧!菩薩爲攝諸衆生故不應食肉。

【實譯】“大慧!一切諸肉皆是精血污穢所成,求淸淨人云何取食?大慧!食肉之人,衆生見之悉皆驚怖,修慈心者云何食肉?大慧!譬如獵師及旃陀羅,捕魚網鳥諸惡人等,狗見驚吠,獸見奔走。空飛水住一切衆生,若有見之,咸作是念:‘此人氣息猶如羅刹,今來至此,必當殺我。’爲護命故,悉皆走避。食肉之人亦復如是。是故,菩薩爲修慈行,不應食肉。大慧!夫食肉者,身體臭穢,惡名流布,賢聖善人不用親狎。是故,菩薩不應食肉。大慧!夫血肉者,衆仙所棄,群聖不食。是故,菩薩不應食肉。


bahujanacittānurakṣaṇatayāpy apavādaparihāraṃ cecchataḥ śāsanasya mahāmate māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ kṛpātmano bodhisattvasya | tadyathā mahāmate bhavanti loke śāsanāpavādavaktāraḥ kiṃcit teṣāṃ śrāmaṇyam kuto vā brāhmaṇyam yannāmaite pūrvarṣibhojanānyapāsya kravyādā ivāmiṣāhārāḥ paripūrṇakukṣayaḥ khabhūmijalasaṃniśritān sūkṣmāṃs trāsayanto jantūn samuttrāsayanta imaṃ lokaṃ samantataḥ paryaṭanti nihatam[3] eṣāṃ śrāmaṇyam dhvastam eṣāṃ brāhmaṇyam nāsty eṣāṃ dharmo na vinaya ity anekaprakārapratihatacetasaḥ śāsanam evāpavadanti | tasmād bahujanacittānurakṣaṇatayāpy apavādaparihāraṃ cecchataḥ śāsanasya mahāmate māṃsaṃ sarvam abhakṣyaṃ kṛpātmano bodhisattvasya ||


【菩譯】“復次,大慧!菩薩爲護衆生信心不應食肉。何以故?大慧!言菩薩者衆生皆知,是佛如來慈心之種,能與衆生作歸依處,聞者自然不生疑怖,生親友想善知識想不怖畏想,言得歸依處得安隱處得善導師。大慧!由不食肉能生衆生如是信心,若食肉者衆生卽失一切信心,便言世間無可信者斷於信根。是故,大慧!菩薩爲護衆生信心一切諸肉悉不應食。復次,大慧!我諸弟子,爲護世間謗三寶故不應食肉。何以故?世間有人見食肉故,謗毀三寶作如是言:‘於佛法中,何處當有眞實沙門婆羅門修梵行者?捨於聖人本所應食,食衆生肉,猶如羅刹食肉滿腹醉眠不動,依世凡人豪貴勢力覓肉食噉,如羅刹王驚怖衆生。’是故處處唱如是言:‘何處當有眞實沙門婆羅門修淨行者?’無法無沙門無毘尼無淨行者,生如是等無量無邊惡不善心,斷我法輪絕滅聖種,一切皆由食肉者過。是故,大慧!我弟子者,爲護惡人毀謗三寶,乃至不應生念肉想,何況食肉。

【實譯】“大慧!菩薩爲護衆生信心,令於佛法不生譏謗,以慈愍故,不應食肉。大慧!若我弟子食噉於肉,令諸世人悉懷譏謗,而作是言:‘云何沙門修淨行人,棄捨天仙所食之味,猶如惡獸,食肉滿腹,遊行世間,令諸衆生悉懷驚怖,壞淸淨行,失沙門道?是故,當知佛法之中無調伏行。’菩薩慈愍,爲護衆生,令不生於如是之心,不應食肉。


mṛtaśavadurgandhapratikūlasāmānyād api mahāmate māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya | mṛtasyāpi hi mahāmate manuṣyasya māṃse dahyamāne tadanyaprāṇimāṃse ca na kaścid gandhaviśeṣaḥ samam ubhayamāṃsayor dahyamānayor daurgandhyam ato ’pi mahāmate śucikāmasya yoginaḥ sarvaṃ māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya ||


【菩譯】“復次,大慧!菩薩爲求淸淨佛土敎化衆生不應食肉,應觀諸肉如人死屍,眼不欲見不用聞氣,何況可嗅而著口中,一切諸肉亦復如是。大慧!如燒死屍臭氣不淨,與燒餘肉臭穢無異,云何於中有食不食?是故,大慧!菩薩爲求淸淨佛土敎化衆生不應食肉。

【實譯】“大慧!如燒人肉,其氣臭穢,與燒餘肉等無差別。云何於中有食不食?是故,一切樂淸淨者不應食肉。


śmaśānikānāṃ ca mahāmate araṇyavanaprasthāny amanuṣyāvacarāṇi prāntāni śayanāsanāny adhyāvasatāṃ yogināṃ yogācārāṇāṃ maitrīvihāriṇāṃ vidyādharāṇāṃ vidyāṃ sādhayitukāmānāṃ[4] vidyāsādhanamokṣavighnakaratvān mahāyānasaṃprasthitānāṃ kulaputrāṇāṃ kuladuhitṝṇāṃ ca sarvayogasādhanāntarāyakaram ity api samanupaśyatāṃ mahāmate svaparātmahitakāmasya māṃsaṃ sarvam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya | rūpālambanavijñānapratyayāsvādajanakatvād api sarvabhūtātmabhūtasya kṛpātmanaḥ sarvaṃ māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya | devatā api cainaṃ parivarjayantīti kṛtvā mahāmate kṛpātmanaḥ sarvaṃ māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya | mukhaṃ cāsya paramadurgandhi ihaiva tāvaj janmani ity api kṛtvā mahāmate kṛpātmanaḥ sarvaṃ māṃsam abhakṣyaṃ bodhisattvasya | duḥkhaṃ svapiti duḥkhaṃ pratibudhyate | pāpakāṃś ca romaharṣaṇān svapnān paśyanti | śūnyāgārasthitasya caikākino rahogatasya viharato ’syāmanuṣyās tejo haranti | uttrasyanty api kadācit saṃtrasyanty api saṃtrāsam akasmāc cāpadyante āhāre ca mātrān na jānāti nāpy aśitapītakhāditākhāditasya samyagrasapariṇāmapuṣṭyādi samāsādayati krimijantupracurakuṣṭhanidānakoṣṭhaś ca bhavati vyādhibahulaṃ na ca pratikūlasaṃjñāṃ pratilabhate | putramāṃsabhaiṣajyavad āhāraṃ deśayaṃś cāhaṃ mahāmate katham iva anāryajanasevitam[5] āryajanavivarjitam evam anekadoṣāvaham anekaguṇavivarjitam anṛṣibhojanapraṇītam akalpyaṃ māṃsarudhirāhāraṃ śiṣyebhyo ’nujñāpyāmi


【求譯】“令諸呪術不成就故,不應食肉。以殺生者見形起識,深味著故,不應食肉。彼食肉者諸天所棄故,不應食肉。令口氣臭故,不應食肉。多惡夢故,不應食肉。空閑林中虎狼聞香故,不應食肉。令飲食無節量故,不應食肉。令修行者不生厭離故,不應食肉。我常說言凡所飲食作食子肉想,作服藥想故,不應食肉。聽食肉者,無有是處。

【菩譯】“復次,大慧!菩薩爲求出離生死,應當專念慈悲之行,少欲知足厭世間苦速求解脫,當捨憒鬧就於空閑,住屍陀林阿蘭若處,塚間樹下獨坐思惟,觀諸世間無一可樂,妻子眷屬如枷鎖想,宮殿臺觀如牢獄想,觀諸珍寶如糞聚想,見諸飲食如膿血想,受諸飲食如塗癰瘡,趣得存命繫念聖道不爲貪味,酒肉葱韮蒜薤臭味悉捨不食。大慧!若如是者是眞修行,堪受一切人天供養;若於世間不生厭離,貪著滋味酒肉葷辛得便噉食,不應受於世間信施。復次,大慧!有諸衆生過去曾修無量因緣,有微善根得聞我法,信心出家在我法中,過去曾作羅刹眷屬,虎狼師子猫狸中生,雖在我法食肉餘習見食肉者歡喜親近,入諸城邑聚落塔寺飲酒噉肉以爲歡樂,諸天下觀猶如羅刹爭噉死屍等無有異,而不自知已失我衆成羅刹眷屬,雖服袈裟剃除鬚髮,有命者見心生恐怖如畏羅刹。是故,大慧!若以我爲師者,一切諸肉悉不應食。復次,大慧!世間邪見諸呪術師若其食肉呪術不成,爲成邪術尚不食肉,況我弟子爲求如來無上聖道出世解脫,修大慈悲精勤苦行猶恐不得,何處當有如是解脫爲彼癡人食肉而得?是故,大慧!我諸弟子爲求出世解脫樂故不應食肉。復次,大慧!食肉能起色力,食味人多貪著,應當諦觀,一切世間有身命者,各自寶重畏於死苦,護惜身命人畜無別,寧當樂存疥野干身,不能捨命受諸天樂。何以故?畏死苦故。大慧!以是觀察死爲大苦是可畏法,自身畏死云何當得而食他肉?是故,大慧!欲食肉者先自念身,次觀衆生,不應食肉。復次,大慧!夫食肉者,諸天遠離,何況聖人,是故菩薩爲見聖人,當修慈悲不應食肉。大慧!食肉之人睡眠亦苦起時亦苦,若於夢中見種種惡,驚怖毛竪心常不安,無慈心故乏諸善力,若其獨在空閑之處,多爲非人而伺其便,虎狼師子亦來伺求欲食其肉,心常驚怖不得安隱。復次,大慧!諸食肉者貪心難滿,食不知量不能消化,增益四大口氣腥臊,腹[6]中多有無量惡蟲,身多瘡癬白癩病疾種種不淨,現在凡夫不憙聞見,何況未來無病香潔人身可得。復次,大慧!我說凡夫爲求淨命噉於淨食,尚應生心如子肉想,何況聽食非聖人食。聖人離者以肉能生無量諸過,失於出世一切功德,云何言我聽諸弟子食諸肉血不淨等味?言我聽者是則謗我。

【實譯】“大慧!諸善男女塚間、樹下、阿蘭若處寂靜修行,或住慈心,或持呪術,或求解脫,或趣大乘,以食肉故,一切障礙,不得成就。是故,菩薩欲利自他,不應食肉。大慧!夫食肉者,見其形色,則已生於貪滋味心,菩薩慈念一切衆生猶如己身,云何見之而作食想?是故,菩薩不應食肉。大慧!夫食肉者,諸天遠離,口氣常臭,睡夢不安,覺已憂悚,夜叉惡鬼奪其精氣,心多驚怖,食不知足,增長疾病,易生瘡癬,恒被諸蟲之所唼食,不能於食深生厭離。大慧!我常說言凡所食噉作子肉想,餘食尚然,云何而聽弟子食肉?大慧!肉非美好,肉不淸淨,生諸罪惡,敗諸功德,諸仙聖人之所棄捨,云何而許弟子食耶?若言許食,此人謗我。


anujñātavān punar ahaṃ mahāmate sarvāryajanasevitam anāryajanavivarjitam anekaguṇavāhakam anekadoṣavivarjitaṃ sarvapūrvarṣipraṇītaṃ bhojanaṃ yaduta śāliyavagodhūmamudgamāṣamasūrādisarpistailamadhuphāṇitaguḍakhaṇḍamatsyaṇḍikādiṣu samupapadyamānaṃ bhojanaṃ kalpyam iti kṛtvā | na ca mahāmate ’nāgate ’dhvany ekeṣāṃ mohapuruṣāṇāṃ vividhavinayavikalpavādināṃ kravyādakulavāsitāvāsitānāṃ rasatṛṣṇāvyavasitānām idaṃ praṇītaṃ bhojanaṃ pratibhāṣyate | na tu mahāmate pūrvajinakṛtādhikārāṇām avaropitakuśalamūlānāṃ śrāddhānām avikalpānāṃ bahulānāṃ śākyakulakulīnānāṃ kulaputrāṇāṃ kuladuhitṝṇāṃ kāyajīvitabhogānadhyavasitānām arasagṛdhrāṇām alolupānāṃ kṛpālūnāṃ sarvabhūtātmabhūtatāmupagantukāmānāṃ sarvasattvaikaputrakapriyadarśināṃ bodhisattvānāṃ mahāsattvānam iti vadāmi ||


【菩譯】“大慧!我聽弟子食諸聖人所應食食,非謂聖人遠離之食,聖食能生無量功德遠離諸過。大慧!過去現在聖人食者,所謂粳米大小麥豆,種種油蜜,甘蔗甘蔗汁,騫陀末干提等,隨時得者聽食爲淨。大慧!於未來世有愚癡人,說種種毘尼言得食肉,因於過去食肉熏習愛著肉味,隨自心見作如是說,非佛聖人說爲美食。大慧!不食肉者,要因過去供養諸佛種諸善根,能信佛語堅住毘尼信諸因果,至於身口能自節量,不爲世間貪著諸味,見食肉者能生慈心。

【實譯】“大慧!淨美食者,應知則是粳米、粟米、大小麥、豆、蘇油、石蜜,如是等類。此是過去諸佛所許,我所稱說。我種性中諸善男女心懷淨信,久植善根,於身、命、財不生貪著,慈愍一切猶如己身,如是之人之所應食,非諸惡習虎狼性者心所愛重。


bhūtapūrvaṃ mahāmate ’tīte ’dhvani rājābhūt siṃhasaudāso nāma | sa māṃsabhojanāhārātiprasaṅgena pratisevamāno rasatṛṣṇādhyavasānaparamatayā māṃsāni mānuṣyāṇy api bhakṣitavān | tann idānaṃ ca mitrāmātyajñātibandhuvargeṇāpi parityaktaḥ prāg eva paurajānapadaiḥ svarājyaviṣayaparityāgāc ca mahadvyasanamāsāditavān māṃsahetoḥ ||


【求譯】“復次,大慧!過去有王名師子蘇陀娑,食種種肉,遂至食人。臣民不堪,卽便謀反,斷其奉祿。以食肉者有如是過故,不應食肉。

【菩譯】“大慧!我憶過去有王名師子奴,食種種肉愛著肉味,次第乃至食於人肉,因食人肉父母兄弟妻子眷屬皆悉捨離,一切臣民國土聚落卽便謀反共斷其命。以食肉者有如是過,是故不應食一切肉。

【實譯】“大慧!過去有王名師子生,耽著肉味,食種種肉,如是不已,遂至食人。臣民不堪,悉皆離叛。亡失國位,受大苦惱。


indreṇāpi ca mahāmate devādhipatyaṃ prāptena pūrvābhūtvā pūrvajanmamāṃsādavāsanādoṣāc chyenarūpam āsthāya kapotaveṣarūpadhārī viśvakarmā samabhidruto ’bhūt tulāyāṃ cātmānamāropita āsīt | yasmād rājānaparādhibhūtānukampakaḥ śibī duḥkhena mahatā lambhitaḥ[7] | tad evam anekajanmābhyas tam api mahāmate devendrabhūtasya śakrasyāpi sataḥ svaparadoṣāvahanam abhūt prāg eva tadanyeṣām ||


【菩譯】“復次,大慧!自在天王化身爲鴿,釋提桓因是諸天主,因於過去食肉習氣,化身作鷹驚逐此鴿,鴿來投我,我於爾時作尸毘王,憐愍衆生更相食噉,稱己身肉與鷹代鴿,割肉不足身上秤上受大苦惱。大慧!如是無量世來食肉熏習,自身他身有如是過,何況無愧常食肉者。

【實譯】“大慧!釋提桓因處天王位,以於過去食肉餘習,變身爲鷹,而逐於鴿。我時作王,名曰尸毘,愍念其鴿,自割身肉,以代其命。大慧!帝釋餘習尚惱衆生,況餘無慚常食肉者。當知食肉自惱惱他。是故,菩薩不應食肉。


anyeṣāṃ ca mahāmate narendrabhūtānāṃ satām aśvenāpahṛtānām aṭavyāṃ paryaṭamānānāṃ siṃhyā saha maithunaṃ gatavatāṃ jīvitabhayādapatyāni cotpāditavantaḥ siṃhasaṃvāsānvayāt kalmāṣapādaprabhṛtayo nṛpaputrāḥ pūrvajanmamāṃsādadoṣavāsanatayā manuṣyendrabhūtā api santo māṃsādā abhūvan | ihaiva ca mahāmate janmani saptakuṭīrake ’pi grāme pracuramāṃsalaulyādatiprasaṅgena niṣevamānā mānuṣamāṃsādā ghorā ḍākā vā ḍākinyaś ca saṃjāyante | jātiparivarte ca mahāmate tathaiva māṃsarasādhyavasānatayā siṃhavyāghradvīpivṛkatarakṣumārjārajambukolūkādipracuramāṃsādayoniṣu pracuratarapiśitāśanā rākṣasādighoratarayoniṣu vinipātyante | yatra vinipatitānāṃ duḥkhena mānuṣyayonir api samāpadyate prāg eva nirvṛtiḥ | ity evamādayo mahāmate māṃsādadoṣāḥ prāg eva niṣevamānānāṃ samupajāyante viparyayāc ca bhūyāṃso guṇāḥ | na ca mahāmate bālapṛthagjanā etāṃś cānyāṃś ca guṇadoṣān avabudhyante | evamādiguṇadoṣadarśanān mahāmate māṃsaṃ sarvam abhakṣyaṃ kṛpātmano bodhisattvasyeti vadāmi ||


【菩譯】“大慧!復有餘王不食肉者,乘馬遊戲爲馬驚波牽入深山,失於侍從不知歸路,不食肉故師子虎狼見無害心,與雌師子共行欲事,乃至生子斑足王等,以過去世食肉熏習,及作人王亦常食肉,在七家村多樂食肉,食肉太過遂食人肉,生諸男女盡爲羅刹。大慧!食肉衆生依於過去食肉熏習,多生羅刹師子虎狼豺豹猫狸鵄梟雕鷲鷹鷂[8]等中,有命之類各自護身不令得便,受飢餓苦常生惡心念食他肉,命終復墮惡道,受生人身難得,何況當有得涅槃道?大慧當知!食肉之人有如是等無量諸過,不食肉者卽是無量功德之聚。大慧!而諸凡夫不知如是食肉之過不食功德,我今略說不聽食肉。

【實譯】“大慧!昔有一王乘馬遊獵,馬驚奔逸,入於山險,旣無歸路,又絕人居。有牝師子與同遊處,遂行醜行,生諸子息。其最長者名曰班足,後得作王,領七億家。食肉餘習,非肉不食。初食禽獸,後乃至人,所生男女悉是羅刹。轉此身已,復生師子、豺狼、虎豹、雕鷲等中,欲求人身終不可得,況出生死涅槃之道。大慧!夫食肉者,有如是等無量過失。斷而不食,獲大功德。凡愚不知如是損益。是故,我今爲汝開演,凡是肉者,悉不應食。


yadi ca mahāmate māṃsaṃ na kathaṃ cana kecana bhakṣayeyur na tann idānaṃ ghāteran | mūlyahetor hi mahāmate prāyaḥ prāṇino niraparādhino vadhyante svalpād anyahetoḥ | kaṣṭaṃ mahāmate rasatṛṣṇāyām atisevatāṃ māṃsāni mānuṣāny api mānuṣair bhakṣyante | kiṃ punar itaramṛgapakṣiprāṇisaṃbhūtamāṃsāni prāyo mahāmate māṃsarasatṛṣṇārtair idaṃ tathā tathā jālayantram āviddhaṃ mohapuruṣair yac chākunikaurabhrakakaivartādayaḥ khecarabhūcarajalacarān prāṇino ’naparādhino ’nekaprakāraṃ mūlyahetor viśasanti | na caiṣāṃ mahāmate kiṃkanīkṛtarūkṣacetasāṃ rākṣasānām iva gataghṛṇānāṃ kadācid api prāṇiṣu prāṇisaṃjñayā ghātayatāṃ bhakṣayatāṃ na ghṛṇotpadyate ||


【求譯】“復次,大慧!凡諸殺者,爲財利故,殺生屠販。彼諸愚癡食肉衆生,以錢爲網而捕諸肉。彼殺生者,若以財物,若以鈎網,取彼空行水陸衆生,種種殺害,屠販求利。

【菩譯】“大慧!若一切人不食肉者,亦無有人殺害衆生,由人食肉若無可食處處求買,爲財利者殺以販賣,爲買者殺,是故買者與殺無異,是故食肉能障聖道。大慧!食肉之人愛著肉味,至無畜生乃食人肉,何況麞鹿雉兎鵝鴈猪羊雞狗駝驢象馬龍蛇魚鼈,水陸有命得而不食,由著肉味設諸方便殺害衆生,造作種種罝羅機網,羅山罝地截河堰海,遍諸水陸安置罟網機撥坑埳弓刀毒箭間無空處,虛空地水種種衆生皆被殺害,爲食肉故。大慧!獵師屠兒食肉人等,惡心堅固能行不忍,見諸衆生形體鮮肥膚肉充悅生食味心,更相指示言是可噉,不生一念不忍之心,是故我說食肉之人斷大慈種。

【實譯】“大慧!凡殺生者,多爲人食。人若不食,亦無殺事。是故,食肉與殺同罪。奇哉!世間貪著肉味,於人身肉尚取食之,況於鳥獸有不食者。以貪味故,廣設方便,罝羅網罟,處處安施,水陸飛行皆被殺害。設自不食,爲貪價直而作是事。大慧!世復有人心無慈愍,專行慘暴,猶如羅刹,若見衆生其身充盛,便生肉想,言此可食。


na ca mahāmate ’kṛtakam akāritam asaṃkalpitaṃ nāma māṃsaṃ kalpyam asti yadupādāyānujānīyāṃ śrāvakebhyaḥ | bhaviṣyanti tu punar mahāmate ’nāgate ’dhvani mamaiva śāsane pravrajitvā śākyaputrīyatvaṃ pratijānānāḥ kāṣāyadhvajadhāriṇo mohapuruṣā mithyāvitarkopahatacetaso vividhavinayavikalpavādinaḥ satkāyadṛṣṭiyuktā rasatṛṣṇādhyavasitāstāṃ tāṃ māṃsabhakṣaṇahetvābhāsāṃ granthayiṣyanti | mama cābhūtābhyākhyānaṃ dātavyaṃ maṃsyante tattadarthotpattinidānaṃ kalpayitvā vakṣyanti | iyam arthotpattir asmin nidāne bhagavatā māṃsabhojanam anujñātaṃ kalpyam iti | praṇītabhojaneṣu coktam svayaṃ ca kila tathāgatena paribhuktam iti | na ca mahāmate kutracit sūtre pratisevitavyam ity anujñātam praṇītabhojaneṣu vā deśitaṃ kalpyam iti ||


【求譯】“大慧!亦無不敎、不求、不想而有魚肉。以是義故,不應食肉。

【菩譯】“大慧!我觀世間無有是肉而非命者,自己不殺不敎人殺他不爲殺,不從命來而是肉者,無有是處。若有是肉不從命出而是美食,我以何故不聽人食?遍求世間無如是肉,是故我說食肉是罪,斷如來種故不聽食。大慧!我涅槃後於未來世法欲滅時,於我法中有出家者,剃除鬚髮自稱我是沙門釋子,披我袈裟癡如小兒,自稱律師墮在二邊,種種虛妄覺觀亂心貪著肉味,隨自心見說毘尼中言得食肉,亦謗我言諸佛如來聽人食肉,亦說因制而聽食肉,亦謗我言如來世尊亦自食肉。大慧!我於《象腋》、《央掘魔》、《涅槃》、《大雲》等一切修多羅中不聽食肉,亦不說肉入於食味。

【實譯】“大慧!世無有肉非是自殺,亦非他殺,心不疑殺,而可食者,以是義故,我許聲聞食如是肉。大慧!未來之世有愚癡人,於我法中而爲出家,妄說毘尼,壞亂正法,誹謗於我,言聽食肉,亦自曾食。


yadi tu mahāmate anujñātukāmatā me syāt kalpyaṃ vā me śrāvakāṇāṃ pratisevituṃ syān nāhaṃ maitrīvihāriṇāṃ yogināṃ yogācārāṇāṃ śmaśānikānāṃ mahāyānasaṃprasthitānāṃ kulaputrāṇāṃ kuladuhitṝṇāṃ ca sarvasattvaikaputrakasaṃjñābhāvanārthaṃ sarvāmāṃsabhakṣaṇapratiṣedhaṃ[9] kuryām kṛtavāṃś ca | asmin mahāmate dharmakāmānāṃ kulaputrāṇāṃ kuladuhitṝṇāṃ ca sarvayānasaṃprasthitānāṃ śmaśānikānāṃ maitrīvihāriṇām āraṇyakānāṃ yogināṃ yogācārāṇāṃ sarvayogasādhanāya sarvasattvaikaputrakasaṃjñābhāvanārthaṃ sarvamāṃsapratiṣedham ||


【菩譯】“大慧!我若聽諸聲聞弟子肉爲食者,我終不得口常讃歎修大慈悲行如實行者,亦不讃歎屍陀林中頭陀行者,亦不讃歎修行大乘住大乘者,亦不讃歎不食肉者,我不自食不聽他食,是故我勸修菩薩行歎不食肉,勸觀衆生應如一子,云何唱言我聽食肉?我爲弟子修三乘行者速得果故,遮一切肉悉不聽食,云何說言我毘尼中聽人食肉?

【實譯】“大慧!我若聽許聲聞食肉,我則非是住慈心者,修觀行者,行頭陀者,趣大乘者,云何而勸諸善男子及善女人於諸衆生生一子想,斷一切肉?


tatra tatra deśanāpāṭhe śikṣāpadānām anupūrvībandhaṃ niḥśreṇīpadavinyāsayogena trikoṭiṃ baddhvā na tad uddiśya kṛtāni pratiṣiddhāni | tato daśaprakṛtimṛtāny api māṃsāni pratiṣiddhāni | iha tu sūtre sarveṇa sarvaṃ sarvathā sarvaṃ nirupāyena sarvaṃ pratiṣiddham | yato ’haṃ mahāmate māṃsabhojanaṃ na kasyacid anujñātavān nānujānāmi nānujñāsyāmi | akalpyaṃ mahāmate pravrajitānāṃ māṃsabhojanam iti vadāmi | yad api ca mahāmate mamābhyākhyānaṃ dātavyaṃ maṃsyante tathāgatenāpi paribhuktam iti | tad anyeṣāṃ mahāmate mohapuruṣāṇāṃ svakarmadoṣāvaraṇāvṛtānāṃ dīrgharātram anarthāyāhitāya saṃvartakaṃ bhaviṣyati | na hi mahāmate āryaśrāvakāḥ prākṛtam anuṣyāhāram āharanti kuta eva māṃsarudhir āhāram akalpyam | dharmāhārā hi mahāmate mama śrāvakāḥ pratyekabuddhā bodhisattvāś ca nāmiṣāhārāḥ prāg eva tathāgatāḥ | dharmakāyā hi mahāmate tathāgatā dharmāhārasthitayo nāmiṣakāyā na sarvāmiṣāhārasthitayo vāntasarvabhavopakaraṇatṛṣṇaiṣaṇāvāsanāḥ sarvakleśadoṣavāsanāpagatāḥ suvimuktacittaprajñāḥ sarvajñāḥ sarvadarśinaḥ sarvasattvaikaputrakasamadarśino mahākāruṇikāḥ | so ’haṃ mahāmate sarvasattvaikaputrakasaṃjñī saṃ katham iva svaputramāṃsam anujñāsyāmi paribhoktuṃ śrāvakebhyaḥ kuta eva svayaṃ paribhoktum | anujñātavān asmiṅ śrāvakebhyaḥ svayaṃ vā paribhuktavān iti mahāmate nedaṃ sthānaṃ vidyate ||


【求譯】“大慧!我有時說遮五種肉,或制十種。今於此經,一切種,一切時,開除方便,一切悉斷。大慧!如來、應供、等正覺尚無所食,況食魚肉。亦不敎人。以大悲前行故,視一切衆生猶如一子。是故,不聽令食子肉。”

【菩譯】“又復說言如來餘修多羅中說三種肉聽人食者,當知是人不解毘尼次第斷故唱言得食。何以故?大慧!肉有二種,一者、他殺;二者、自死。以世人言有肉得食有不得者,象馬龍蛇人鬼獼猴猪狗及牛,言不得食餘者得食,屠兒不問得食不得,一切盡殺處處衒賣,衆生無過橫被殺害,是故我制他殺自死悉不得食。見聞疑者所謂他殺,不見聞疑者所謂自死。是故,大慧!我毘尼中唱如是言:‘凡所有肉,於一切沙門釋子皆不淨食,污淸淨命障聖道分,無有方便而可得食。’若有說言佛毘尼中說三種肉爲不聽食非爲聽食,當知是人堅住毘尼是不謗我。大慧!今此楞伽修多羅中,一切時一切肉,亦無方便而可得食。是故,大慧!我遮食肉不爲一人,現在未來一切不得。是故,大慧!若彼癡人自言律師,言毘尼中聽人食肉,亦謗我言如來自食,彼愚癡人成大罪障,長夜墮於無利益處無聖人處不聞法處,亦不得見現在未來賢聖弟子,況當得見諸佛如來。大慧!諸聲聞人常所應食,米麵油蜜種種麻豆能生淨命,非法貯畜非法受取,我說不淨尚不聽食,何況聽食血肉不淨。大慧!我諸聲聞辟支佛菩薩弟子食於法食,非食飲食何況如來。大慧!諸佛如來法食法住非飲食身,非諸一切飲食住身,離諸資生愛有求等,遠離一切煩惱習過,善分別知心心智慧一切智一切見,見諸衆生平等憐愍。是故,大慧!我見一切諸衆生等猶如一子,云何而聽以肉爲食?亦不隨喜,何況自食。大慧!如是一切葱韮蒜薤臭穢不淨能障聖道,亦障世間人天淨處,何況諸佛淨土果報;酒亦如是,能障聖道能損善業能生諸過。是故,大慧!求[10]聖道者酒肉葱韮及蒜薤等能熏之味悉不應食。”

【實譯】“大慧!我於諸處說遮十種,許三種者,是漸禁斷,令其修學。今此經中,自死他殺,凡是肉者,一切悉斷。大慧!我不曾許弟子食肉,亦不現許,亦不當許。大慧!凡是肉食,於出家人悉是不淨。大慧!若有癡人,謗言如來聽許食肉,亦自食者,當知是人惡業所纏,必當永墮不饒益處。大慧!我之所有諸聖弟子尚不食於凡夫段食,況食血肉不淨之食?大慧!聲聞、緣覺及諸菩薩尚惟法食,豈況如來?大慧!如來法身,非雜食身。大慧!我已斷除一切煩惱,我已浣滌一切習氣,我已善擇諸心智慧,大悲平等,普觀衆生猶如一子,云何而許聲聞弟子食於子肉,何況自食?作是說者,無有是處。”

【菩譯】大慧菩薩問:酒肉葱韮蒜,

    佛言是不淨,一切不聽食。


anāryajuṣṭa durgandhamakīrtikaram eva ca|

kravyādabhojanaṃ māṃsaṃ brūhyabhakṣyaṃ mahāmune ||2||


【菩譯】羅刹等食噉,非聖所食味;

    食者聖呵嘖,及惡名流布。


bhakṣyamāṇe ca ye deṣā abhakṣye tu guṇāś ca ye |

mahāmate nibodha tvaṃ ye doṣā māṃsabhakṣaṇe ||3||


【菩譯】願佛分別說,食不食罪福?

    大慧汝諦聽,我說食中過,


svājanyādvyabhicārāc ca śukraśoṇitasaṃbhavāt |

udvejanīyaṃ bhūtānāṃ yogī māṃsaṃ vivarjayet ||4||


【求譯】曾悉爲親屬,鄙穢不淨雜,

    不淨所生長,聞氣悉恐怖。

【菩譯】酒肉葱韮蒜,是障聖道分。

    我觀三界中,及得聖道衆;

    無始世界來,展轉莫非親。

    云何於其中,而有食不食?

    觀肉所從來,出處最不淨;

    膿血和雜生,尿屎膿涕合,

    修行淨行者,當觀不應食。

【實譯】悉曾爲親屬,衆穢所成長,

    恐怖諸含生,是故不應食。


māṃsāni ca palāṇḍūṃś ca madyāni vividhāni ca |

gṛñjanaṃ laśunaṃ caiva yogī nityaṃ vivarjayet || 5 ||


【求譯】一切肉與葱,及諸韮蒜等,

     種種放逸酒,修行常遠離。

【菩譯】種種肉及葱,酒亦不得飲,

    種種韮及蒜,修行常遠離。

【實譯】一切肉與葱,韮蒜及諸酒,

    如是不淨物,修行者遠離。


mrakṣaṇaṃ varjayet tailaṃ śalyaviddheṣu na svapet |

chidrāc chidreṣu sattvānāṃ yac ca sthānaṃ mahadbhayam || 6 ||


【求譯】亦常離麻油,及諸穿孔床,

    以彼諸細蟲,於中極恐怖。

【菩譯】常遠離麻油,穿孔床不眠,

    飛揚諸細蟲,斷害他命故。

【實譯】亦常離麻油,及諸穿孔床,

    以彼諸細蟲,於中大驚怖。


āhārāj jāyate darpaḥ saṃkalpo darpasaṃbhavaḥ |

saṃkalpajanito rāgas tasmād api na bhakṣayet || 7 ||


【求譯】飲食生放逸,放逸生諸覺,

    從覺生貪欲,是故不應食。

【菩譯】肉食長身力,由力生邪念,

    邪念生貪欲,故不聽食肉。

【實譯】飲食生放逸,放逸生邪覺。

    從覺生於貪,是故不應食。


saṃkalpāj jāyate rāgaś cittaṃ rāgeṇa muhyate |

mūḍhasya saṃgatir bhavati jāyate na ca mucyate || 8 ||


【求譯】由食生貪欲,貪令心迷醉,

    迷醉長愛欲,生死不解脫。

【菩譯】由食肉生貪,貪心致迷醉;

    迷醉長愛欲,不解脫生死。

【實譯】邪覺生貪故,心爲貪所醉,

    心醉長愛欲,生死不解脫。


lābhārthaṃ hanyate sattvo māṃsārthaṃ dīyate dhanam |

ubhau tau pāpakarmāṇau pacyete rauravādiṣu || 9 ||


【求譯】爲利殺衆生,以財網諸肉,

    二俱是惡業,死墮叫[11]呼獄。

【菩譯】爲利殺衆生,爲肉追錢財;

    彼二人惡業,死墮叫喚獄。

【實譯】爲利殺衆生,以財取諸肉,

    二俱是惡業,死墮叫喚獄。


yo 'tikramya muner vākyaṃ māṃsaṃ bhakṣati durmatiḥ |

lokadvayavināśārthaṃ dīkṣitaḥ śākyaśāsane || 10 ||


【黃譯】已按釋迦教導入道,思想依然邪惡,

    違背牟尼教誨食肉,毀掉兩個世界。


te yānti paramaṃ ghoraṃ narakaṃ pāpakarmiṇaḥ|

rauravādiṣu raudreṣu pacyante māṃsakhādakāḥ||11||


【黃譯】犯下惡業者墮入最可怕的地獄,

    食肉者在恐怖的號叫地獄受煎熬。


trikoṭiśuddhamāṃsaṃ vai akalpitamayācitam|

acoditaṃ ca naivāsti tasmānmāṃsaṃ na bhakṣayet||12||


【求譯】若無敎想求,則無三淨肉,

    彼非無因有,是故不應食。

【菩譯】三種名淨肉,不見聞不疑;

    世無如是肉,生墮食肉中。

【實譯】不想不敎求,此三種名淨,

    世無如是肉,食者我訶責。


māṃsaṃ na bhakṣayed yogī mayā buddhaiś ca garhitam |

anyonyabhakṣaṇāḥ sattvāḥ kravyādakulasaṃbhavāḥ || 13 ||


【求譯】彼諸修行者,由是悉離遠,

    十方佛世尊,一切咸呵責,

    展轉更相食,死墮虎狼類。

【實譯】更互相食噉,死墮惡獸中,

    臭穢而癲狂,是故不應食。


durgandhiḥ kutsanīyaś[12] ca unmattaś cāpi jāyate |

caṇḍālapukkasakule ḍombeṣu ca punaḥ punaḥ || 14 ||


【求譯】臭穢可厭惡,所生常愚癡,

    多生栴陀羅,獵師譚婆種,

【菩譯】臭穢可厭患,常生顚狂中;

    多生旃陀羅,獵師屠兒家。


ḍākinījātiyonyāś ca māṃsāde jāyate kule |

rākṣasīmārjārayonau ca jāyate 'sau naro 'dhamaḥ || 15 ||


【求譯】或生陀夷尼,及諸肉食性,

    羅刹猫狸等,遍於是中生。

【菩譯】或生羅刹女,及諸食肉處;

    羅刹猫狸種,食肉生彼中。

【實譯】獵師旃茶羅,屠兒羅刹娑,

    此等種中生,斯皆食肉報。


hastikakṣye mahāmedhe nirvāṇāṅgulimālike |

laṅkāvatārasūtre ca mayā māṃsaṃ vivarjitam || 16 ||


【求譯】縛象與大雲,央掘利魔羅,

    及此楞伽經,我悉制斷肉。

【菩譯】象腋與大雲,涅槃勝鬘經;

    及入楞伽經,我不聽食肉。

【實譯】食已無慚愧,生生常癲狂,

    諸佛及菩薩,聲聞所嫌惡。[13]

    象脇與大雲,涅槃央掘摩,

    及此楞伽經,我皆制斷肉。


buddhaiś ca bodhisattvaiś ca śrāvakaiś ca vigarhitam |

khādate yadi nairlajjyād unmatto jāyate sadā || 17 ||


【求譯】諸佛及菩薩,聲聞所呵責,

    食已無慚愧,生生常癡冥。

【菩譯】諸佛及菩薩,聲聞亦呵嘖;

    食肉無慚愧,生生常顚狂。


brāhmaṇeṣu ca jāyeta atha vā yogināṃ kule |

prajñāvān dhanavāṃś caiva māṃsādyānāṃ vivarjanāt || 18 ||


【黃譯】遠離食肉等,則生於婆羅門和

    修行者家族,具有智慧和財富。


dṛṣṭaśrutaviśaṅkābhiḥ sarvamāṃsaṃ vivarjayet |

tārkikā nāvabudhyante kravyādakulasaṃbhavāḥ||19||


【求譯】先說見聞疑,已斷一切肉,

    忘想不覺知,故生食肉處。

【菩譯】先說見聞疑,已斷一切肉;

    妄想不覺知,故生食肉想。

【實譯】先說見聞疑,已斷一切肉,

    以其惡習故,愚者妄分別。


yathaiva rāgo mokṣasya antarāyakaro bhavet |

tathaiva māṃsamadyādyā antarāyakaro bhavet || 20 ||


【求譯】如彼貪欲過,障礙聖解脫,

    酒肉葱韮蒜,悉爲聖道障。

【菩譯】如彼貪欲過,障礙聖解脫;

    酒肉葱韮蒜,悉爲聖道障。

【實譯】如貪障解脫,肉等亦復然,

    若有食之者,不能入聖道。


vakṣyanty anāgate kāle māṃsādā mohavādinaḥ |

kalpikaṃ niravadyaṃ ca māṃsaṃ buddhānuvarṇitam || 21 ||


【求譯】未來世衆生,於肉愚癡說,

    言此淨無罪,佛聽我等食。

【菩譯】未來世衆生,於肉愚癡說;

    言此淨無罪,佛聽我等食。

【實譯】未來世衆生,於肉愚癡說,

    言此淨無罪,佛聽我等食。


bhaiṣajyaṃ māṃsam āhāraṃ putramāṃsopamaṃ punaḥ |

mātrayā pratikūlaṃ ca yogī piṇḍaṃ samācaret || 22 ||


【求譯】食如服藥想,亦如食子肉,

    知足生厭離,修行行乞食。

【菩譯】淨食如藥想,猶如食子肉;

    知足生厭離,修行行乞食。

【實譯】淨食尚如藥,猶如子肉想,

    是故修行者,知量而行乞。


maitrīvihāriṇāṃ nityaṃ sarvathā garhitaṃ mayā |

siṃhavyāghravṛkād yaiś ca saha ekatra saṃbhavet || 23 ||


【求譯】安住慈心者,我說常厭離,

    虎狼諸惡獸,恒可同遊止。

【菩譯】安住慈心者,我說常厭離;

    師子豺虎狼,恒可同遊止。

【實譯】食肉背解脫,及違聖表相,

    令衆生生怖,是故不應食。[14]

    安住慈心者,我說常厭離,

    師子及虎狼,應共同遊止。


tasmān na bhakṣayen māṃsam udvejanakaraṃ nṛṇām |

mokṣadharmaviruddhatvād āryāṇām eṣa vai dhvajaḥ || 24 ||


【求譯】若食諸血肉,衆生悉恐怖,

    是故修行者,慈心不食肉。

    食肉無慈悲,永背正解脫,

    及違聖表相,是故不應食。

    得生梵志種,及諸修行處,

    智慧富貴家,斯由不食肉。[15]

【菩譯】食肉見者怖,云何而可食?

    是故修行者,慈心不食肉。

    食肉斷慈心,離涅槃解脫;

    及違聖人敎,故不聽食肉。

    不食生梵種,及諸修行道;

    智慧及富貴,斯由不食肉。

【實譯】若於酒肉等,一切皆不食,

    必生賢聖中,豐財具智慧。[16]
